Public Speaking for 6th Graders

New World Track · Theme: Arrival & Anchor

New World is built for the biggest social transition in a student's life — the jump into middle school. Every student walks in carrying something new: a new campus, new peers, new teachers who don't know them yet. This track teaches them to use their voice as the thing that helps them belong — not something they have to earn the right to use first.

Fall/spring school sessions

The name is intentional. New World is about arriving somewhere and figuring out how to be heard in it. That's not a skill most 6th graders were taught — it's usually something that just happens to you, or doesn't. This track makes it deliberate.

Every session is structured so nobody gets ambushed. The first reps are short, low-stakes, and framed for students who have never spoken in front of a group on purpose. By Day 5, they're performing a live showcase in front of parents — and most of them want to do it again.

Curriculum

Five sessions — built to build

Summer: five consecutive days, 90 minutes each. Fall/spring: once a week for five weeks, 60 minutes each.

  1. 01
    The Room You're Already In
You're already a great communicator. This session takes that same version of you into rooms where nobody knows you yet.
  2. 02
    The Mechanics
Your body talks before you do. Stance, voice projection, and deliberate eye contact — installed, not performed.
  3. 03
    The REAL Pitch
Relatable. Engaging. Authentic. Linked. Your first rep with the framework that runs through every Rhetrix track.
  4. 04
    Two Rooms
What changes when the room moves from in-person to on-camera? Session 4 is where we close that gap.
  5. 05
    Showcase
A live presentation in front of parents. Your first real room, with a real audience, and real applause.

FAQ

Common questions about New World

Is this right for a 6th grader who is really shy?
Especially yes. Day one is structured so nobody gets ambushed. First reps are short, low-stakes, and framed so quiet students can build momentum without being put on the spot. Pillar three of the Rhetrix curriculum is that introverts are exceptional communicators when coached well.
What will my 6th grader actually learn?
Five sessions: room presence (how to walk into a new environment like you belong), vocal mechanics (stance, projection, eye contact), the REAL Pitch framework, on-camera delivery for virtual classrooms and future interviews, and a live showcase for parents on Friday (summer) or the final week (fall/spring).
How is this different from a school speech class?
School classes are curriculum-driven, graded, and run for 30 students by a teacher whose job is covering the standard. Rhetrix is max 14 seats in summer or 18 in fall/spring, entirely focused on developmental stage, and taught by a coach whose only job is making your student better at communicating.
Where does New World meet?
Summer camp: Woodstock Community Church, 4411 Towne Lake Pkwy, Woodstock GA. Fall/spring: at partner school campuses, Mondays either before school (7:50–8:50 AM) or after school (4:15–5:15 PM).
How much does it cost?
Summer day camp: $750/week (5 days, 90 min/day, 14 seats max). Fall or spring cohort: $650 (5 weeks, 60 min/week, 18 seats max). $100 of every fall/spring seat goes back to the partner school or PTA.
