The four bars
Level 1 · Show up, speak up, follow through

13 lessons · finished at Holding on every skill
Level 2 · Stories and conversation
Range
Tell a two-minute story from memory with a deliberate pause and a laugh in it, carry a conversation with follow-ups and a question back, and answer a follow-up they have not seen.
15 lessons · finished at Holding on every skill
Level 3 · Persuasion and hard conversations
Influence
Build a three-minute case with two minutes to think, hold a hard conversation with "and" instead of "but", make a real ask without the cushion, and answer the strongest argument against you.
18 lessons · finished at Holding on every skill
Level 4 · Cold talks, interviews and leading the room
Command
Speak cold for five minutes on a prompt you see the moment you start, handle an interview on a video call, on the phone and across a table, and lead a group rep by coaching someone else.
15 lessons · finished at Commanding on most skills
The six questions
On opening day, honest answers place a student where the work starts. Nothing here is a judgment; it is a starting line.
- When your student has to speak in front of a group: Avoids it, or freezes and gives one-line answers · Seeks it out, handles questions, has led a room, and the two in between.
- The longest talk they have given on their own, standing: None, or under a minute · Longer, or more than once in front of strangers, and the two in between.
- In conversation with adults they do not know: One-word answers, waits to be asked · Runs the conversation, reads the room, turns questions back, and the two in between.
- Filler words (um, like, you know) when they are thinking: Every sentence · Rarely, and the two in between.
- A hard conversation, with a coach, a teacher or a friend: Avoids it · Asks, states what they want, negotiates, and the two in between.
- Interviews, auditions or applications they have done: None · Several, comfortable cold, and the two in between.
